Treated myself to just over a week in the South of France during the backend of February. Specifically went down to photograph the Nice Carnaval. Something I wanted to do for many years. Don't like flying too much so decided to let the train take the strain. Booked everything including accommodation well in advance. Well, on arriving at Manchester Piccadilly station I found the ticket I had purchased 6 months earlier was for the wrong date. I had to repurchase another ticket at full price with literally only minutes to spare before the train set off. Next two and a quarter hours was quite uneventful. Checked into my Travelodge room, about 10 mins walk from St. Pancrass. Woken up by fire alarm at 1:00am, had to wait outside for over 1 hour. Eventually let back in. Collected my ticket for the Eurostar, got frisked by the French security, finally got onto the train. Arrived Paris, had to catch a coach to Paris Nord station, whilst waiting to board someone stepped onto the coach and stole the drivers phone.
Turns out the driver didn't know Paris to well, and asked if anyone had a phone that had google maps on. Arrived at Paris Nord station, had to wait a couple of hours, person stood close by me was targeted by pickpockets, but luckily one of the station security personnel recognised them and chased them away. Caught the high-speed train to Nice which took over five and a half hours, not a great start to the week.
